The Softer Side Of Denim – 4 Methods To Softer Denim Jeans
Keeping the stiff upper lip does not need to apply to wearing your denim jeans. Ideally, they should let you look stylish yet comfortable. If you have denim jeans that a little bit too stiff, you could soften them for your comfort. Think of it like breaking them in the same way that you break in new leather shoes. Here are four methods that you could use to soften your colored denim jeans.
Sneakers
Your sneakers – yes, your sneakers – can act as an agent that will soften your denim jeans. For this method, place a pair of clean sneakers in your washing machine and wash it regularly without laundry detergent. After the wash cycle, place both your denim jeans and sneakers in the dryer and let them tumble on the regular setting that you will use for your jeans. The sneakers act to create friction, which will soften the fibers of your denim jeans.
Fabric Softener and Vinegar
Add one cup of vinegar and twice the amount of fabric softener (that you would normally use to wash your denim jeans) to your washing machine. Turn your denim jeans inside out and wash them with the vinegar and fabric softener without adding laundry detergent.
Sandpaper and Pumice Stone
Start this method by tightly rolling your denim jeans in a bundle. This will prepare them for the sandpaper and pumice stone by first stretching fibers in your denim jeans. Leave your jeans in this tightly stretched position for 15 minutes then unroll them. Next, take some sandpaper or pumice stones and rub them horizontally on the legs of your denim jeans. This will further stretch the fibers of your jeans giving them that worn look. In this case, a bit worn equals softer jeans.
Salt
To soften you denim jeans with salt turn them inside out and add them to your washer along with a cup of salt. Wash your jeans as you would normally. Afterwards, place them in a dryer. Dry them on low heat to get softer denim jeans.
You can bring out the softer side of your denim jeans by following the preceding four methods. After each method, check your denim jeans for softness. If it is not as soft as you would like, repeat the method. Moreover, feel free to use more than one method to get a softness that suits your comfort level. After all, you will be wearing those pants in your family.
